Not so surprising news.
So Moffatt is taking over from RTD.

I'm fine with that. He's done well as a writer. Of course series runner is a different matter entirely but time will tell. I'm a tad worried to see some part of fandom holding him up as the next messiah because he may not live up to those expectations...

I do wonder why though RTD would want to leave. Yeah, it's a tough job but being the show runner of any series of that magnitude is. You look at some of his US counterparts like Joss Whedon, Mark Cherry, Eric Kripke, Seth McFarlane....you'd have to prise their shows away from their cold dead fingers. But perhaps that's because they're all the creators of their shows, they're their babies and RTD doesn't have quite that kind of attachment to DW.

Really?! I *love* Moffatt. (And I am in no way connected with DW fandom, pretty much, so consider this a completely independent view) I like his work and his brain :) I hope he enjoys it and does a good job! \0/

I can see why RTD wants to go though. It's a 7-days-a-week sort of job and after five years of it he must be absolutely knackered.

Yeah, I just wonder how the show runners of these US shows cope when they're doing more episodes and are expecting to hopefully go on for 7 seasons at least!

I think he does a lot more than most show runners, and he is sort of looking after three series plus all the spin-off merchandise with a much smaller crew to help him out. Oh God, I'm sounding like a RTD-apologist!!!
