Quite a start to the weekend
We had an earthquake this morning.

That is not something I ever thought I'd be saying/typing whilst living in Kent.

It was barely a little rumble here in Ashford but dad phoned me from work (the powerstation at Dungeness) to say it had set off all their seismic equipment and the building had definitely shook quite a lot. Absolutely no damage so it shows how well the place is built. 4.7 magnitude apparently.

My brother wants a t-shirt that says 'We had an earthquake and I survived'...

They had someone on the phone from Ashford. SHe'd experienced an earthquake in greece a couple of years before and from that had become interested so recognised it when it happened. Sitting on firm granite here I'm going to say that it's very very cool.

Yeah I heard that woman. I don't know where she was in Ashford but we didn't feel anything near as bad as what she did. Maybe she was living in a different type of housing or something. We got a bit of a rumble, a bit like an enormous lorry drove by.

As I said, dad felt proper shaking and everything, even in their great big powerstation. Apparently one of the bosses phoned down and asked if they'd done something! How very dare he! Dad did say it gave their seismic sensors a proper work out though - they're used to just picking up tiny little tremors.

I bet they're far more normally used when pinpointing the location of other tremors.

Folkestone was in the epicentre and it was quite scary. Takes a lot to get me out in the street in my nighty at quarter past eight on Saturday morning! ;)

Yeah, I heard about that! We sometimes get tremors here, but it's been a while.

Nothing like an earth quake to jump start your weekend, lol! ;)

I live in California, land of earth quakes. Fortunately, in the little corner where I live, we don't get them very often. I've experienced 2 quakes in my lifetime, both the rolling kind and the shaking kind. I much prefer the latter. The rolling kind really messes with your equilibrium and makes you queasy. It was the first type of quake I'd experienced and didn't know it was a quake at first. I thought I was just not feeling well all of a sudden.
