You're really a lovely bunch of human beings, you know that?
We'll I have had the most fabulous birthday weekend...

Thanks to flipbfc  I went to see the Lion King yesterday - a show I've wanted to watch for absolutely years. Soooo worth the wait. I could wax lyrical about it for a whole post, but in summary...How they do the costuming is incredible, making you look at the puppets and animal heads (particularly Zazu and the hyenas). The staging is amazingly complex and yet used brilliantly to portray all the places you're familiar with from the film - particular kudos goes to the stampede scene which was incredible. The music and singing is rich and perfect. And the use of movement....I could write a page on that alone but how they use dance and other actors to make things like hunts and chases really have a sense of speed...So impressive.

Got a chance to go shopping too and brought a fabulous dress and a pair of very funky mustard colour sandals. I also managed to go into a changing room and NOT feel chunky. To actually look in a mirror and be not upset by how I look but okay with it is such a massive step for me. People keep commenting and saying how slim I look, particularly people I haven't seen in a while like our practice nurse. I have such a hard time seeing it though. I see a chubby person still. But to look in a mirror a see someone I'd consider 'normal' sized is rather liberating...

Anyway, back to less deep stuff...

We also had a lovely dinner in a lovely restaurant and then some even lovelier lychee martinis in a bar whilst laughing at the bloke dressed as gangster Michael Jackson. He was dancing to try and impress the girl with him - she very much wasn't buying it if the look on her face was anything to go by.

On to today and I got lots of lovely pressies (hand crafted soap making kit for the new craft experience, an annoying but addictive puzzle ball, lovely new jammies and dressing gown, lego Pirates of the Caribbean game...). My brother's gf also made me a giant Happy Birthday banner.

The most photogenic of my pressies is my new bear. He has a wheat bag tummy for winter warmth and I have named him Brian (because then he's Brian the Bear):

This afternoon we went to Leeds Castle to visit the home and garden fair they were holding there. Which was all very quaint and country if somewhat breezy due to sharp gusts (although watching the beer tent nearly blow away was surprisingly amusing - we wondered which tree the bar would land in). I got a really lovely boho chic/vintage scarf too:

And then this evening we went for dinner. Just popped down to the Harvester since it's close, doesn't require booking and my bro isn't very adventurous. I'm very disappointed that they don't ask 'have you ever been to a Harvester before?' any more... Are they presuming everyone has by now?

So it was a really lovely weekend.

Finally, I would just like to say a massive thank you to everyone who wished me a happy birthday today via whatever means. I know it's terribly corny but I was really genuinely touched by all the people who took the time. I never have any expectations of such things and seeing such loveliness makes me slightly sniffy. I really have met a wonderful bunch of sweet and caring human beings in my time. Group hugs all round! *runs before this starts to sound like a BAFTA acceptance speech*

Ommg The Lion King I went to see that on stage years ago, and it really is fantastic. Not sure I think it quite has the emotional punch of the film, but it's certainly spectacular. : D

I was originally hoping to join you and jen this weekend and I'm sorry I couldn't because you deserved a really big celebration, but I'm glad you enjoyed your birthday weekend so much. [hugs]
