Who's that girl?
And the pun in title wasn't even deliberate...

So, I've been re-watching the first half of this series (and I honestly think I appreciate the episodes more the second time around) and I was struck by something. The air force lady in Victory of the Daleks was given an awful lot of screen time considering her character had absolutely nothing at all to do with the plot.

If you don't know who I mean:

She got a whole little story about her and her fiancé (not that we ever knew who he was) yet she seemed to have nothing to do with the plot. This got me thinking of two explanations:

1. Iffy writing. Meant to show us the human cost of war or something but not really pulled off.

2. She'll be returning later on. I wonder if her fiance was Danny Boy, the only surviving pilot. We never saw him after all and she was told her fiancé was shot down over the channel...Maybe he got accidentally taken but the Daleks or something.

It just seemed odd to make a deal out of this character when she had no weight on the plot.

i was wondering that, too. i kept expecting something significant to happen around her character and it didn't so it was just like "erm, ok...ay..."

it's just not adequate that she was the human face of the story. if the groundwork wasn't being laid for something else, then I should have used this icon instead:

At the time I thought there was gonna be some thing between her and Amy...
